FORMERLY SEATTLE CHOCOLATE

There’s a magical world around us, and it’s our job to keep it that way. We became carbon neutral in 2022 and do every dang thing we can to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible - and ensure a thriving future for chocolate, our favorite food.

our carbon footprint

Because we manufacture a product and send it all around the country, it is virtually impossible to reduce our carbon emissions to zero - and mitigation alone cannot reverse climate change. So we purchase carbon offsets through projects that reduce or remove carbon from the atmosphere. We became officially carbon neutral in 2022 when our offset credits purchased became equal to our CO2 footprint.

We’ve also disposed of 4 tons of flexible plastics since our recycling program started in 2023.

we do whatever we can to keep our footprint small

packaging as green as can be

Maeve’s twist wraps are compostable and our gift boxes and truffle bar wrappers are recyclable. We also only use water-based, non-toxic inks on packaging.

Keeping waste from the landfill

  • We compost everything we can throughout our facility, which on average is 26 tons per year.
  • We get creative about how we recycle, for example, we recycle on average 30,000 gloves and hairnets, 400 nut butter buckets, 94 tons of cardboard and paper, and 37 tons of plastic a year.
  • Almost 10,000 pounds of imperfect factory seconds make their way from our Flagship store to happy homes each year.

let’s stay home

One mile of driving emits about one pound of CO2. In order to reduce carbon emission by about 30 MT CO2 per year, our office staff works from home 3 days a week.

renewable energy

We work with Puget Sound Energy to convert our energy usage to renewable sources - avoiding emissions equal to 3,000 gallons of gasoline usage or 3.3 million smartphones getting charged.

more trees please

Every year we plant hundred of trees to celebrate celebrate employees’ birthdays, new employees, and newborns - absorbing more than 16 tons of CO2.

Gas from garbage

Our facility uses renewable natural gas sourced from a Washington State landfill.

our sustainability pledges

achieve science based targets* to limit global warming to 2.7f above pre-industrial levels by:

  • 2025

    maintain our carbon neutral status

  • 2030

    reduce energy-based emissions by 42% by 2030

  • 2050

    net zero emissions by 2050

*Validated by SBTi (Science Based Target Initiative) to reduce emissions in line with Paris Agreement goals
