keeping things green

Our sustainability journey began long ago, and we’re proud to now be a fully carbon neutral company with eco-friendly practices at our very core. Over the years, we’ve made huge strides to do our part in combating climate change - from switching to compostable bonbon wraps to planting hundreds of trees each year to harvesting emissions from the landfill to heat our facility- and so much more.

a healthy dose of color

When Jean took over Seattle Chocolate Company, there was a whole lot of brown happening in the chocolate aisle. She craved color, and immediately began infusing the line with beautiful jewel tones and artistic designs. Now, we’d argue we have some of the most smile-inducing bars on the chocolate shelf - but we’ll let you be the judge of that.

In the past two decades, Jean has traveled the Chocolate Belt by skies, rivers, and (very) bumpy roads. With each visit to origin, we’ve learned something valuable about this complex crop - and the people who grow it. Jean and our team take a thoughtful approach to sourcing and certifications, ensuring that farmers are able to lead healthy lives. In 2024, we set up a chocolate making facility in our own factory, so we can cut out the middlemen and trade directly with farmers.

Jean has always known that chocolate can make a difference, and added a philanthropic element to the company that has continued to grow. With your help we’ve given to many different causes we’re passionate about over the years, and are now proud to use 10% of our net profits to fund essential projects for cocoa farmers in Ghana.

THE WORLD OF MAEVE HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN.

The road to becoming Maeve began as a conversation between Jean and her daughter, Ellie. Ellie essentially grew up in the chocolate factory (an actual dream come true) and officially joined the company in 2019. Maeve (named after a fiery first-century Irish warrior queen) may have started as a pipe dream between the two, but quickly became a reality as they realized the impact our small-but-mighty Seattle brand could have nation-wide. Ultimately, our goal is to give as many consumers as possible an ethical, delicious, and FUN choice when buying chocolate.
